Manachanallur Assembly constituency, located in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency. The seat was created after the 2008 delimitation of constituencies in the state. According to the 2011 Census estimates, the constituency is predominantly rural, with 80.19 per cent of the population living in rural areas and 19.81 per cent in urban areas. Scheduled Castes make up 19.44 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes account for 0.09 per cent.
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, DMK’s S Kathiravan won decisively with 116,334 votes, or 59.14 per cent of the vote share, defeating AIADMK candidate M Paranjothi, who received 56,716 votes. The margin of victory was 59,618 votes, corresponding to 30.3 per cent, making it one of the larger margins in recent elections.
Historically, Manachanallur has seen competitive contests between the DMK and AIADMK. In the first election after delimitation in 2011, the AIADMK won the seat with TP Poonachi securing 53.13 per cent of the vote. The DMK gradually strengthened its position, with S Kathiravan consolidating the party’s dominance in 2021.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by S Kathiravan (DMK), while the Perambalur Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by Arun Nehru (DMK).
