Vedasandur Assembly constituency, located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Karur Lok Sabha constituency. According to the 2011 Census estimates, about 78.1 per cent of the population in the constituency is rural while 21.9 per cent is urban. Scheduled Castes account for 18.49 per cent of the population and Scheduled Tribes about 0.02 per cent.
In the 2021 Assembly election, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam won the seat with S Gandhirajan securing 1,06,481 votes, or 49.98 per cent of the vote share. He defeated the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s V. P. B. Paramasivam, who received 88,928 votes. The margin of victory was 17,553 votes, or about 8.24 per cent of the total votes polled. The AIADMK secured 41.73 per cent of the vote, while the Naam Tamilar Katchi polled 3.99 per cent.
Historically, the constituency has seen shifting control between the Congress, the AIADMK and the DMK M Dhandapani of the Congress won the seat in 2006. The AIADMK then held the constituency in 2011 and 2016 with S. Palanichamy and VPB Paramasivam respectively. The DMK captured the seat in the 2021 Assembly election with S Gandhirajan.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by S Gandhirajan of the DMK, while the Karur Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by S Jothimani of the Congress.
