Natham Assembly constituency, located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency. According to the 2011 Census estimates, about 87.41 per cent of the population in the constituency is rural while 12.59 per cent is urban. Scheduled Castes account for 16.39 per cent of the population and Scheduled Tribes about 0.09 per cent.
In the 2021 Assembly election, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam retained the seat with Natham R. Viswanathan securing 1,07,762 votes, or 47.85 per cent of the vote share. He defeated the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s M. A. Andi Ambalam, who received 95,830 votes. The margin of victory was 11,932 votes, or about 5.3 per cent of the total votes polled. The DMK secured 42.54 per cent of the vote, while the Naam Tamilar Katchi polled 6.56 per cent.
Historically, the constituency has seen close contests between the AIADMK and the DMK. Natham R Viswanathan of the AIADMK won the seat in 2006 and again in 2011. The DMK briefly captured the constituency in 2016 when MA Andi Ambalam won by a narrow margin. However, the AIADMK regained the seat in the 2021 Assembly election with Natham R Viswanathan returning as MLA.
