Vellore Assembly constituency is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed electoral contests mainly between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), along with the presence of other parties such as the Indian National Congress (INC).
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s P. Karthikeyan won the seat by securing 84,299 votes. He defeated AIADMK’s S. R. K. Appu, who secured 75,118 votes. The margin of victory stood at 9,181 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Vellore had a total of 2,49,715 electors, of which 1,71,279 valid votes were polled. DMK’s P. Karthikeyan won the seat with 88,264 votes, defeating AIADMK’s Harun Rasheed, who secured 62,054 votes. The margin of victory was 26,210 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,91,251 electors and recorded 1,40,740 valid votes. AIADMK’s Dr. V. S. Vijay won the seat with 71,522 votes, defeating Indian National Congress candidate C. Gnanasekaran, who secured 56,346 votes. The margin of victory stood at 15,176 votes.
