Dindigul Assembly constituency, located in Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency. According to the 2011 Census estimates, the constituency is largely urban in character, with about 88.78 per cent of the population living in urban areas and 11.22 per cent in rural areas. Scheduled Castes account for 14.41 per cent of the population and Scheduled Tribes about 0.05 per cent.
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam retained the seat with C Sreenivasan securing 90,595 votes, or 46.44 per cent of the vote share. He defeated the Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate N Pandi, who received 72,848 votes. The CPI(M) secured 37.34 per cent of the vote, while the Naam Tamilar Katchi polled 7.62 per cent.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the Assembly segment gave strong support to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), which secured 57.48 per cent of the vote. The AIADMK received 16.75 per cent, while the PMK polled 13.51 per cent.
Historically, the constituency has seen competition between the AIADMK and the CPI(M). K. Balabharathi of the CPI(M) won the seat in 2006 and again in 2011. The AIADMK captured the constituency in 2016 with C. Sreenivasan and retained it in the 2021 Assembly election.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by C Sreenivasan of the AIADMK, while the Dindigul Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by R. Sachithanantham of the CPI(M).
