Maduravoyal, an Assembly constituency located within Chennai district and designated as Constituency No. 7, includes parts of Ambattur taluk and select areas under the Chennai Corporation, and comes under the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha segment. Once primarily a historic temple town and military area, the seat has evolved into a fast‑growing urban fringe with expanding residential zones and transport links. Political focus in Maduravoyal often centres on addressing chronic traffic congestion, flooding during monsoon due to inadequate drainage, shortage of drinking water leading to heavy reliance on tankers, deteriorated interior roads, gaps in solid waste collection and disposal, and safety risks for pedestrians along busy highway stretches. In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK candidate K. Ganapathy won the Maduravoyal seat with 121,298 votes, defeating AIADMK’s P. Benjamin, who secured 89,577 votes, by a margin of 31,721 votes. Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly polls, the constituency had about 3,91,693 registered voters and AIADMK’s Benjamin P won the seat with 99,739 votes, defeating Indian National Congress candidate R. Rajesh, who secured 91,337 votes, by a margin of 8,402 votes.
