Tiruchirappalli (East) Assembly constituency, located entirely within the urban areas of Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency.
According to the 2011 Census estimates, the constituency has a population of 311,807, with Scheduled Castes accounting for 10.57 per cent and Scheduled Tribes for 0.24 per cent. The seat is fully urban, with 100 per cent of the population living in urban areas.
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, DMK’s S Inigo Irudayaraj won the seat with 94,302 votes, representing 54.56 per cent of the vote share. He defeated AIADMK candidate N Vellamandi Natarajan, who received 40,505 votes, by a margin of 53,797 votes, or 31.12 per cent—one of the largest margins in the constituency’s history.
Historically, the seat was held by AIADMK in the early elections following its formation, with R Manoharan winning in 2011 and N Natarajan in 2016. The DMK captured the constituency in 2021 with Inigo Irudayaraj’s decisive victory.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by S Inigo Irudayaraj (DMK), while the Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency is represented in Parliament by Durai Vaiko of the MDMK.
