Pollachi Assembly constituency, located in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency has a predominantly rural demographic profile, with about 55.82 per cent of its population classified as rural and 44.18 per cent urban, according to the 2011 Census. Scheduled Castes constitute around 17.53 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes account for about 0.86 per cent.
In the last Tamil Nadu Assembly elections of 2021, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam retained the seat with Pollachi V Jayaraman securing 80,567 votes. He defeated the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s Dr. K. Varadharajan, who polled 78,842 votes. The margin of victory was 1,725 votes, or about 0.98 per cent of the total votes cast. The AIADMK secured 45.44 per cent of the vote, closely followed by the DMK with 44.47 per cent.
Historically, Pollachi has been considered a stronghold of the AIADMK, with Pollachi V Jayaraman winning multiple elections from the constituency, including in 2011, 2016 and 2021. Despite this trend, the DMK has remained a strong challenger, as reflected in the narrow margins in recent elections and its strong performance in parliamentary contests.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by Pollachi V. Jayaraman of the AIADMK, while the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency is represented by K. Eswarasamy of the DMK.
