Singanallur Assembly constituency, located in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency has a completely urban demographic profile, with 100 per cent of its population classified as urban according to the 2011 Census. Scheduled Castes account for about 11.3 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes constitute around 0.08 per cent.
In the last assembly polls of 2021, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam retained the seat with KR Jayaram securing 81,244 votes. He defeated the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s N. Karthik, who polled 70,390 votes, with a margin of 10,854 votes, or about 5.41 per cent of the total votes cast.
Historically, Singanallur has seen alternating electoral outcomes among major parties including the AIADMK, DMK and, in parliamentary contests, Left parties and the Congress at different times. In recent years, however, the primary contest has largely been between the AIADMK and the DMK, with emerging parties such as Makkal Needhi Maiam occasionally influencing the vote share.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by KR Jayaram of the AIADMK, while the Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency is represented by Ganapathy Rajkumar P of the DMK.
