Thiruverumbur Assembly constituency, located in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency.
The constituency is predominantly urban, with 82.88 per cent of the population living in urban areas and 17.12 per cent in rural areas, according to the 2011 Census estimates. Scheduled Castes make up 17.06 per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes account for 0.61 per cent.
In the last Assembly elections of 2021, DMK’s Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi retained the seat, securing 105,424 votes (53.52 per cent) and defeating AIADMK candidate P Kumar, who received 55,727 votes, by a margin of 49,697 votes, or 25.23 per cent.
Historically, Thiruverumbur has seen competitive contests between the DMK, AIADMK, and DMDK. The DMK’s Sekaran KN won the seat in 2006 and 2011, but the DMDK captured it in 2011 with S Senthilkumar. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi reclaimed the constituency for the DMK in 2016 and consolidated his position in 2021 with a significant margin.
The constituency is currently represented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly by Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi (DMK), while the Tiruchirappalli Lok Sabha constituency is represented by Durai Vaiko (MDMK).
