Thondamuthur Assembly constituency, located in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, forms part of the Pollachi Lok Sabha constituency. The seat has a predominantly urban profile, with about 90.38per cent of its population classified as urban and 9.62per cent rural, according to the 2011 Census. Scheduled Castes constitute 11.16per cent of the population, while Scheduled Tribes account for 0.47per cent.
As per the 2024 electoral roll, the constituency has 3,36,243 voters across 312 polling stations.
In the political landscape, Thondamuthur has largely witnessed competition between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. In the last 2021 Assembly election, the AIADMK secured 53.89per cent of the vote, defeating the DMK, which polled 35.83per cent.
The constituency is currently represented in the State Assembly by SP Velumani (AIADMK).
Historical vote-share trends indicate fluctuating alignments and the presence of smaller parties in certain elections, but the principal contest in recent years has remained centred on the AIADMK–DMK rivalry, with emerging challenges from parties such as the BJP and other regional players like CPM at times.
