Tirukkoyilur Assembly constituency is located in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed shifting political control between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and alliance-backed challengers over the past decade, reflecting changing voter alignments in the region.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,39,087 electors, with 1,88,438 valid votes polled. DMK’s K Ponmudy secured a decisive victory with 93,837 votes, defeating AIADMK’s Gothandaraman G by a margin of 41,057 votes, marking one of the wider winning margins in the seat’s recent history.
Earlier, in 2011, Tirukkoyilur had 1,97,599 electors and recorded 1,59,075 valid votes. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam’s Venkatesan L won the seat with 78,229 votes, defeating DMK’s Thangam M by 8,791 votes.
The contrasting margins between 2011 and 2016 indicate a constituency responsive to broader alliance configurations and party momentum at the state level.
