Arani Assembly constituency is located in Tamil Nadu and has seen contests mainly between the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), with other parties occasionally entering the fray.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s Sevvoor S. Ramachandran won the seat by securing 1,02,961 votes. He defeated DMK candidate S. S. Anbazhagan, who secured 99,833 votes. The margin of victory was a narrow 3,128 votes.
In the 2016 Assembly elections, the Arani constituency had a total of 2,56,327 electors, out of which 2,09,545 valid votes were cast. AIADMK’s S. Ramachandran won the seat with 94,074 votes, defeating DMK candidate S. Babu, who secured 86,747 votes. The margin of victory was 7,327 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,15,794 electors and recorded 1,77,723 valid votes. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) candidate R. M. Babu Murugavel won the seat with 88,967 votes. He defeated DMK candidate R. Sivanandham, who secured 81,001 votes, by a margin of 7,966 votes.
