Harur Assembly constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes, is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed electoral contests among parties such as the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
In the 2021 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s V. Sampathkumar won the seat by securing 99,061 votes. He defeated CPI(M)’s A. Kumar, who secured 68,699 votes. The margin of victory stood at 30,362 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Harur had a total of 2,25,545 electors, of which 1,90,134 valid votes were polled. AIADMK’s R. Murugan won the seat with 64,568 votes, defeating DMK’s S. Rajendran, who secured 53,147 votes. The margin of victory was 11,421 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,88,764 electors and recorded 1,50,272 valid votes. Communist Party of India (Marxist)’s P. Dillibabu won the seat with 77,703 votes, defeating Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi’s B. M. Nandhan, who secured 51,200 votes. The margin of victory stood at 26,503 votes.
