Bargur Assembly constituency is located in the state of Tamil Nadu and has witnessed electoral contests mainly between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), along with the presence of parties such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s D. Mathiazhagan won the seat by securing 97,256 votes. He defeated AIADMK’s A. Krishnan, who secured 84,642 votes. The margin of victory stood at 12,614 votes.
Earlier, in the 2016 Assembly elections, Bargur had a total of 2,28,893 electors, of which 1,88,056 valid votes were polled. AIADMK’s V. Rajendran won the seat with 80,650 votes, narrowly defeating DMK’s E. C. Govinddarasan, who secured 79,668 votes. The margin of victory was 982 votes.
In the 2011 Assembly elections, the constituency had 1,93,531 electors and recorded 1,58,363 valid votes. AIADMK’s K. E. Krishnamurthi won the seat with 88,711 votes, defeating PMK’s T. K. Raja, who secured 59,271 votes. The margin of victory stood at 29,440 votes.
