Madurai North Assembly Election Results 2026
Madurai North is a key urban constituency within Madurai city, with a diverse demographic and a strong presence of trading communities. In the 2021 Assembly elections, DMK’s G. Thalapathi won with 73,010 votes, defeating BJP’s P. Saravanan, who secured 50,094 votes. The margin was 22,916 votes. In the 2016 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s V. V. Rajan Chellappa won with 70,437 votes, defeating DMK’s M. V. Muthuramalingam, who received 51,598 votes. The margin was 18,839 votes. In the 2011 Assembly elections, AIADMK’s A. K. Bose won with 85,053 votes, defeating INC’s K. S. K. Rajendran, who secured 38,653 votes. The margin was 46,400 votes.The 234-seat Assembly election in Tamil Nadu will see the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by Chief Minister M K Stalin, take on the opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and a resurgent BJP-led alliance. The campaign is centred around issues such as welfare schemes, law and order, and the broader debate between Dravidian political identity and national integration narratives. While the DMK government is highlighting its record on industrial growth and social justice, the opposition has targeted it over allegations of corruption and concerns about power shortages.
