Karimganj North Assembly constituency is one of the 126 seats in the Assam Legislative Assembly and is designated as constituency number 123. It is a general category seat, not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs).
The state’s main political parties include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).
Karimganj North falls under the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2021 Assembly elections, Congress candidate Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha secured victory over BJP’s Dr Manash Das by a margin of 8,324 votes, which translated to a 5.7% lead.
According to Election Commission data, the constituency had a total of 1,47,166 registered voters in 2021. Of these, 72,777 were men and 72,363 were women, with no voters recorded under the third gender category. A total of 2,026 postal votes were cast. The number of service voters stood at 182, including 179 men and 3 women.
