The Hailakandi Assembly constituency is one of the 126 constituencies in the Assam Legislative Assembly and is numbered 121. It is a general seat, not reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Scheduled Tribes (STs).
The main political parties in Assam include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Indian National Congress (Congress), Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M).
Hailakandi falls under the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2021 assembly election, AIUDF candidate Zakir Hussain Laskar won the seat, defeating BJP candidate Milon Das by a margin of 23,754 votes (18.56%).
According to the Election Commission, the Hailakandi constituency had 1,29,031 registered voters in 2021, including 68,076 male voters and 59,555 female voters. No voters were registered under the third gender. The constituency recorded 1,400 postal votes and 519 service voters (512 men and 7 women).
In 2016, Hailakandi had a total of 1,12,995 voters, with 61,639 male and 50,864 female voters. There were no voters from the third gender. The number of valid postal votes was 492, and service voters numbered 464 (329 men and 135 women).
