Mazbat Assembly constituency is one of the 126 constituencies in the Assam Legislative Assembly, formerly listed as Majbat before the 2023 delimitation exercise updated the name. It is a general (unreserved) seat in Udalguri district, within the Bodoland Territorial Region, and falls under the Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency covers rural areas around Mazbat town with a mix of Bodo, Adivasi, and other communities focused on agriculture.
The main political parties in Assam include the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland People's Front (BPF), United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM).
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections (then named Majbat), BPF's Charan Boro won decisively with 54,409 votes (42 per cent share), defeating BJP's Jitu Kissan (38,352 votes) by 16,057 votes. He had also won in 2016 with 48,351 votes. In 2026, Charan Boro contests again — now under BJP (contesting on BPF ticket) — against Congress's Narayan Adhikari for this renamed Bodoland seat.
The 2026 Assam Assembly elections will test Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's BJP-led government, which swept to power with a comfortable majority in 2021. With the opposition Congress-AIUDF combine seeking to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment, every constituency will be a crucial battleground in deciding whether the state returns a second consecutive BJP government.
