Nashik: Cash and jewellery worth Rs 36 lakh were stolen from a flat in Suchita Nagar, under the Mumbai Naka police station limits, in Nashik while the residents were out of town, the police said.The theft took place between 1pm on Sunday and am on Monday, when an unidentified burglar broke open the latch and lock of the main door and decamped with valuables, including Rs 24 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs 12 lakh.The police said the complainant and his family were away on May 17 and 18 when the break-in occurred. The crime came to light after the complainant checked CCTV footage of his flat via his cellphone and noticed the main door open.He immediately alerted neighbours, one of whom verified the situation and informed him about the theft. The complainant rushed back to Nashik and found that the accused had looted cash and jewellery from five cupboards inside the flat.According to the police, the stolen jewellery includes gold, silver and diamond items. A case has been registered against an unidentified accused.Officials said further investigation is underway, and efforts are on to identify and trace the burglar.
