BHOPAL: A Bhopal court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of absconding lawyer Samarth Singh in the suspicious death case of model and actress Twisha Sharma, as police announced a cash reward for information leading to his arrest. The prosecution also cited WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Twisha to her mother days before her death. In one message dated May 9, she purportedly wrote, “Maa aap mujhe yaha se lene aa jao kal please,” while another message described her life as “narak” and complained that her husband was no longer speaking to her.The defence has denied all allegations, arguing that the WhatsApp messages were edited and unreliable. The 33-year-old was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, just months after her marriage to Samarth Singh in December 2025.During the hearing, the defence opposed arrest, questioning Twisha’s mental health and alleging she was a psychiatric patient and drug addict — claims strongly contested by her family. The prosecution argued there was a risk of evidence being tampered with if bail was granted.
Sessions court judge Pallavi Dwivedi rejected the pre-arrest bail application. The court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, who is also an accused in the case.Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, said the decision was only a partial step toward justice and called for the immediate arrest of both accused, alleging influence and attempts to secure relief in higher courts. He also alleged that Twisha’s husband had refused to acknowledge her pregnancy and that she had faced sustained harassment after losing her job.Police have said the initial post-mortem conducted at AIIMS Bhopal indicates death by hanging, though the family has alleged multiple injuries suggesting foul play.Investigators admitted that the rope allegedly used in the hanging was not sent for forensic examination, and said action would be taken against the officer responsible. The SIT said it is continuing its probe under dowry harassment and abetment provisions, irrespective of the defence claims.
