11-yr-old girl dies after ‘completing anti-rabies vaccine course’
Kanpur: An 11-year-old girl died under suspicious circumstances in village Gulabpur in the Phaphund police station area after her condition deteriorated following the final dose of an anti-rabies vaccine course taken after a dog bite, police and family members said.Gunjan, daughter of Ravinder Singh Nayak was playing outside her home on May 15 when a dog bit and injured her. The family took her to Dibiyapur CHC, where she received the first dose of anti-rabies vaccine. They said second and third doses were administered on May 18 and May 22 as per the scheduled timeline, and that on May 29 she was given the prescribed fourth and final dose.It was alleged that as soon as Gunjan reached home from the hospital, her condition suddenly began to deteriorate. The family took her to a medical college where doctors treated her, but there was no improvement. The family then took her to a private hospital in Kanpur, but she died on the way.The family and pradhan Dinesh Kumar took the body to Dibiyapur CHC and created an uproar over the treatment. They lodged a complaint with CHC superintendent Dr. Vijay Anand. Police arrived at the scene and pacified the family. The body was later sent for post-mortem.CHC superintendent said that all doses were administered to the girl at the CHC on time. Station House Officer Ajay Kumar said the cause of death would become clear from the post-mortem report.
