Kanpur: Rail welding and track laying work began on Tuesday on the Kanpur Metro Rail Project’s Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8) elevated section, as track construction gained momentum following progress in the underground section.
The activities started on the approximately 4.50 km long elevated stretch from Agricultural University to Barra-8, which is under construction. Track construction was already underway in the 4.10 km long underground section from Rawatpur to Double Pulia. The first phase of rail welding and track laying on the elevated section was carried out on the metro viaduct near Vijay Nagar Station, where metro rails were being laid.
In the coming days, track slab casting for the ballast-less track system will also begin. Safety features such as derailment guards and the installation of the third rail for power supply will be incorporated as part of the track infrastructure.
