Nagaland draws 2.25 lakh domestic visitors a year: Tourism dept to guv

Dimapur: Nagaland receives approximately 2.25 lakh domestic tourists annually, while international tourist arrivals range between 2,000 and 5,000 per year, the state tourism department said in its report presented to governor Nand Kishore Yadav at a review meeting at Lok Bhavan in Kohima.The department presented an overview of its key initiatives, achievements, challenges and future plans to the governor on Monday. Secretary, tourism, Nchumbemo Lotha, briefed the governor on tourism development in Nagaland, citing initiatives to strengthen the state’s position in eco-tourism, cultural tourism and community-based tourism.The department reiterated its vision of promoting sustainable tourism that preserves the state’s cultural heritage while protecting its natural environment.Widely known as the “Land of Festivals”, Nagaland offers tourism experiences ranging from tribal traditions to landscapes and biodiversity. Officials listed major attractions including Dzukou Valley, popularly known as the “Valley of Flowers”, Khonoma Green Village, recognised as India’s first green village, Mount Saramati, the highest peak in the state, and Diezephe Craft Village, known for traditional handloom and handicrafts.
