AAP protests Haryana CM Saini’s visit in Dhuri, alleges BJP bias against Punjab
Sangrur: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday staged a protest in Babanpur village in the Dhuri constituency against the visit of Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, with party leaders, workers and local residents raising slogans against what they termed the BJP's anti-Punjab policies.Leading the protest, Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation chairperson Dalvir Singh Dhillon alleged that the BJP had consistently pursued policies detrimental to Punjab's interests. He accused the party of opposing the transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab, attempting to dilute the state's rights over river waters through the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), and adopting an anti-Punjab stance on the SYL issue.Dhillon also referred to the farmers' agitation, alleging that the Centre's policies continued to adversely affect Punjab's farming community. He claimed certain international trade arrangements could further weaken the agricultural sector.Punjab Waqf Board member Anwar Bhasaur alleged that the BJP's policies were anti-farmer and aimed at creating divisions among people for political gains. He, however, expressed confidence that Punjabis would reject attempts to spread discord in the state.
Zila Parishad chairperson Rachhpal Singh Bhullar said Punjab's social fabric and history would not allow politics of hatred and division to succeed. Referring to the recent local body polls, he claimed the results reflected public rejection of BJP policies and support for the AAP govt led by chief minister Bhagwant Mann.AAP leaders said issues such as Punjab's river waters, the BBMB, Chandigarh, pending Rural Development Fund (RDF) dues and farmers' concerns remained unresolved. They alleged that the Centre and the BJP had failed to adequately address these issues.Party leaders said the protest was aimed at highlighting Punjab's concerns and reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding the state's rights and interests.MSID:: 131567506 413 |
