US-Israel-Iran War News Highlights: Multiple explosions reported across Iran; IRGC targets two vessels in Hormuz

Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate after the United States launched airstrikes on targets in southern Iran following the crash of an American AH-64 Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump blamed Iran for the incident. Both crew members were rescued safely in what US military officials described as the first known drone-assisted rescue at sea by American forces.

In response to the US strikes, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it launched retaliatory attacks on American military assets across the region. Tehran said it targeted the US Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, struck sites linked to the Al Azraq airbase in Jordan, and carried out operations against multiple US air and naval facilities. Bahrain sounded missile alert sirens, while Kuwait said its air defence systems intercepted hostile aerial targets. Jordan also confirmed it shot down five missiles launched from Iran towards the Al Azraq area.

The US strikes targeted air defence systems, radar sites and command infrastructure in southern Iran, according to US Central Command. Iran, however, accused Washington of attacking civilian infrastructure in Jask, Sirik and Qeshm, claiming telecommunications facilities and water storage tanks were damaged.

The latest escalation comes against the backdrop of the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and a fragile regional ceasefire that has repeatedly come under strain. The Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes, remains at the centre of growing military tensions, raising concerns over global energy security and the risk of a wider regional confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has reportedly targeted two vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after Tehran ordered the complete closure of the strategic waterway, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency.

The report claimed the ships were "violating vessels" trying to transit the strait despite the restrictions. Earlier, Iran's Mehr news agency reported that the country's top joint military command had ordered all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships, to stay out of the Strait of Hormuz, warning that any ship attempting to pass through the waterway would be targeted.

The claims could not be independently verified, and no immediate details were available on the condition of the vessels or potential casualties. The developments come amid escalating tensions in the Gulf and growing concerns over disruptions to one of the world's most critical energy shipping routes.

Iran war: Gold tumbles over 2% to two-month low as renewed US-Iran hostilities stoke rate fears

Higher rates typically weigh on non-yielding assets such as gold. Investors are now awaiting key US inflation data for clues on the Fed's policy path, while technical indicators suggest further downside pressure on bullion. Silver and platinum also declined, while palladium edged higher.

President Donald Trump initially blamed Iran for bringing down the aircraft. The two crew members were rescued safely by US forces.

In response, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it launched retaliatory attacks on American military assets across the region. Tehran said it targeted the US Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, struck sites linked to the Al Azraq airbase in Jordan and carried out operations against multiple US air and naval facilities. Bahrain sounded missile alert sirens, Kuwait reported intercepting hostile aerial targets, and Jordan said it shot down five missiles launched from Iran towards the Al Azraq area.

The Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime chokepoint through which nearly one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes, has emerged as a major flashpoint in the crisis. The latest military exchanges have heightened concerns over regional security, global energy supplies and the risk of a broader confrontation involving Iran, the United States and its regional allies.

The escalation has also cast fresh uncertainty over already fragile diplomatic efforts related to Iran's nuclear programme and wider regional security arrangements, with analysts warning that continued retaliation from either side could further deepen the conflict.
