₹2.10cr visa fraud case: Court moves to declare Pkl couple absconders

Mohali: The legal net is tightening around a Panchkula-based couple accused of cheating a man of ₹2.10 crore on the pretext of securing Canadian Permanent Residency (PR), with a Mohali court initiating proceedings to declare them absconders.The court has directed Suresh Malik and his wife Simran Malik to appear by June 11, failing which they may be declared proclaimed offenders.As part of the process, Mohali Police pasted a proclamation notice at the couple’s residence after they allegedly failed to join the probe by the NRI PS. Their anticipatory bail pleas were earlier dismissed by the court of additional district and sessions judge Hardeep Singh.Fraud ClaimComplainant Gagandeep Goyal of Kharar alleged the couple promised to secure his Canadian PR, claiming a close contact in the Canadian embassy could ensure smooth approval. Trusting them, he said he paid around ₹2.10 crore in instalments.Alleged Forged DocumentsThe accused allegedly showed fake visa approvals via online portals and shared documents on WhatsApp claiming his PR had been cleared. Verification later revealed the documents were forged, the complaint states.Probe OnA case has been registered under the Immigration Act and other relevant sections. Police said efforts are on to trace the accused, even as proclamation proceedings intensify legal pressure.If the couple fails to appear by June 11, proceedings to formally declare them proclaimed offenders will move forward.
