A tense standoff between the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at multiple locations along the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal has ended after more than 40 Bangladeshi nationals stranded at border zero points reportedly returned to Bangladesh. The most significant confrontation occurred in Cooch Behar's Mekhliganj sector, where BGB initially refused to accept a group of individuals, alleging they were being illegally pushed back from India. Similar situations were reported in Sitalkuchi, Dinhata and Jalpaiguri. While BSF says the stranded individuals have now returned to Bangladesh, BGB has claimed it foiled eight separate push-back attempts within 24 hours. The developments come amid intensified efforts to identify and deport undocumented immigrants, with the Centre urging Dhaka to expedite nationality verification procedures.
