'These children have no parents': Woman abandons 2 kids on bus, elopes with lover, leaves note with grandfather’s contact number

BEED: A woman allegedly abandoned her two minor children on a state transport bus in Maharashtra’s Beed district before fleeing with her paramour, police said on Thursday.Before leaving the children behind on Sunday, the woman reportedly slipped a handwritten note into their pocket containing an address in Yavatmal and her father’s mobile number, officials added.According to police, the woman, a resident of Yavatmal, had boarded a Tuljapur-Sambhajinagar bus along with the children. During the journey, she allegedly got off the bus midway and escaped with her paramour on a scooter, an official from Shivajinagar police station said on Wednesday.The note left with the children read: "These children have no parents. Please send them to Yavatmal and ensure they reach safely." It also mentioned an address in Yavatmal and the mobile phone number of the children's grandfather, according to the police.The bus conductor later found the children crying and alone, following which he alerted the Shivajinagar police in Beed, the official said.Police subsequently took the children into protective custody and later shifted them to a child care home in Arvi village of Shirur Kasar tehsil, according to an official from the local Child Welfare Committee.Meanwhile, police contacted the children’s grandfather using the phone number mentioned in the note and called him to Beed on May 18.However, officials said the grandfather appeared more concerned about a scooter, a mobile phone and Rs 20,000 allegedly taken away by his daughter than the condition and welfare of his grandchildren.Further legal proceedings in the case are underway, police added.(With agency inputs)
