NMC close to de-clogging rivers before monsoons
Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has made significant progress in de-clogging the Nag, Pilli, and Porha rivers that flow through the city. Officials report that nearly 90% of the work aimed at preventing urban flooding and improving stormwater flow is complete.The civic body has also begun cleaning Ambazari Lake and is planning similar operations at other major lakes across the city as part of its broader monsoon preparedness strategy, NMC commissioner Vipin Itankar said on Friday.Speaking to TOI after attending an online meeting chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Itankar said the civic administration was fully prepared to tackle any emergency during the rainy season. He said the river de-clogging exercise was progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed well before the May 31 deadline.Fadnavis reviewed the preparedness of multiple agencies involved in monsoon response and disaster management. These included the army, navy, air force, coast guard, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), railways, communication department and other emergency services, according to officials from the chief minister's office.
