Nagpur: A civil engineer had a narrow escape after his moving car suddenly caught fire on the Ghogali stretch near Besa on Thursday afternoon. The driver managed to exit the vehicle moments before flames engulfed it. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to information, the incident occurred around 1 pm when Umesh Dharave noticed smoke emanating from the front portion of his vehicle. Within minutes, flames spread through the car.
Realising the danger, Dharave immediately pulled over the vehicle to the roadside and stepped out. Soon after, the car was completely engulfed in fire. He informed the fire department and sought emergency assistance.
Fire brigade personnel reached the spot around 20 to 25 minutes later and launched efforts to douse the flames. However, by the time firefighters arrived, the vehicle had already suffered extensive damage.
The exact cause of the blaze has not yet been established. While excessive summer heat is being considered as a possible contributing factor, authorities said the actual reason will be determined only after a detailed investigation.
Recalling the incident, Dharave said the situation could have turned serious had the flames spread to fuel tank.
