Kolkata: A police officer, who bought land in Haridevpur to build a house, has alleged that the arrested Borough 16 chairperson from Trinamool Congress, Sudip Polley, demanded Rs 3 lakh for allowing him to commence construction work. Now, based on his complaint, a case of extortion has been filed against Polley at the Haridevpur police station.
Additionally, another separate case has been filed against the arrested municipal representative, where he has been charged with attempt to murder. Kolkata Police registered the new case at Thakurpukur Police Station in connection with an alleged extortion attempt and assault that left a man with severe head injuries. According to the complainant, the incident occurred on June 23 last year. He alleged that the FIR-named persons, including Polley, and others, demanded Rs 3 lakh and threatened to kill him. He further alleged that they struck him from behind on the head with a bamboo stick, causing him to collapse.
Samadder was taken to Vidyasagar State General Hospital and later referred to SSKM Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
Earlier on Sunday, Polley was remanded to six days of police custody by the court in another attempt to murder case. Lalbazar stated that Polley will be taken into custody in the case filed at Haridevpur police station.
According to police records, Lalkamal Chandra (33), a resident of Vidyasagar Colony, alleged that on or before March this year, the accused person demanded Rs 5 lakh from him for allowing continuation of his business. It was further alleged that once Chandra failed to pay, Polley, along with his associates, assaulted the complainant on James Long Sarani and also damaged his shop.
