Kolkata: The Haridevpur police arrested
Abhijit Das, a prominent promoter operating in South Kolkata, following a complaint of a Rs 4,00,000 extortion racket linked to jailed KMC Ward 123 councillor, Sudip Polley.
According to police, a resident from Haridevpur filed a complaint alleging that Das and Polley demanded an inflated payment of Rs 6,00,000 — instead of the standard Rs 2,00,000 — to permit the construction of a boundary wall. Das allegedly pocketed a Rs 3,50,000 advance but halted work, later threatening the victim. Following intense interrogation regarding syndicates in the area, police executed the arrest.
Authorities are processing custody transitions to deepen the investigation. —Dwaipayan Ghosh
