Man kills 50-year-old uncle over pathway dispute
Tarn Taran: A long-standing dispute over a pathway leading to agricultural fields in Jaura village, near Sarhali Kalan, took a fatal turn on Saturday when a 50-year-old farmer was beaten to death, allegedly by his nephew. Police said the main accused is absconding, while his wife has been arrested.The deceased has been identified as Balbir Singh, a resident of Jaura village. The incident occurred at his residence, where he was present with his wife, Raj Kaur.According to police reports, Harpreet Singh, the son of the deceased, had gone to a nearby dairy to deliver milk when the clash took place. In his statement to the police, Harpreet alleged that his cousin, Surjit Singh, arrived at the house accompanied by his wife, Harjit Kaur, and began arguing over an old dispute regarding a passage used to access agricultural land.Inspector Binderjit Singh, the SHO of Sarhali Kalan police station, stated that the verbal altercation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.Reportedly, when Balbir Singh intervened to calm the situation, Surjit Singh allegedly attacked him with sticks, inflicting serious head injuries. The victim collapsed and lost consciousness. Family members and neighbours rushed him to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the village, and police teams were deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.SHO Binderjit Singh said the police reached the spot after receiving information and initiated legal proceedings. The body was taken into custody and sent for a postmortem.A case has been registered against Surjit Singh and Harjit Kaur.
