PEO arrested for Rs 12 lakh fund bungling
Berhampur: The panchayat executive officer (PEO) of Darubhadra in Ganjam district' s Hinjili block was arrested on Tuesday for alleged embezzlement of over Rs 12 lakh of panchayat funds. The accused, Trilochan Nayak, of Sompur was arrested after the block development officer (BDO) of Hinjili lodged an FIR against him on May 26. He was absconding since then, said Sreenibash Sethy, IIC, Hinjili police station.Preliminary inquiry reveals he has misappropriated the amount during one- and-half year period, said Sagarika Sadangi, BDO Hinjili. Collector (Ganjam) Keerthi Vassan V suspended him on May 25, after the inquiry revealed that he has misappropriated the govt money. The BDO said the inquiry was conducted against him following the complaint lodged by the sarpanch.
