Balangir: A special vigilance judge in Balangir on Monday convicted a retired additional tehsildar in a bribery case.According to court records, Rajendra Choudhury, the former additional tehsildar (retired), who was charge-sheeted by Odisha vigilance in a case under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, for demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant to issue a crucial transit pass, known as a Y-Form, when he was posted at the Deogaon tehsil in the district.“The former revenue official was sentenced to three years in prison after a vigilance court found him guilty of demanding a bribe. Apart from imprisonment, the court also sentenced Choudhury to pay a fine of Rs 10,000,” a vigilance officer said.Choudhury was trapped by vigilance sleuths in 2021 while accepting the bribe from the complainant. The vigilance team planned to catch him red-handed after the complainant approached vigilance officials.The vigilance officials stated they would approach the relevant authorities to halt Choudhury’s pension benefits.
