TMC Targets CEC Gyanesh Kumar In Parliament As SIR Voter Roll Row Escalates Before Bengal Polls

A major political confrontation is brewing ahead of the West Bengal elections. The All India Trinamool Congress has started the process to bring a motion in Parliament seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The step comes amid controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls in the state. TMC leaders claim millions of voter names have been placed under adjudication and allege irregularities in the process. Senior leader Saugata Roy said the party is collecting signatures from MPs of both Houses before submitting the motion. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also launched sharp attacks on the Election Commission. The BJP, however, has dismissed the charges, with Union Minister Chirag Paswan accusing the opposition of weakening democratic institutions.
