YS Jagan raises alarm over SIR, asks leaders to be vigilant

Vijayawada: YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed concern over the alleged attempts for large-scale deletion of votes during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiated by the Election Commission of India. He said that massive deletions could impact election outcomes. Jagan asked the party leaders and cadre to remain vigilant against deletion of genuine voters and also inclusion of bogus and duplicate votes ahead of the local body elections.Addressing party leaders at the YSRCP central office on Wednesday, Jagan said several political parties across the country had raised concerns over deletion of genuine votes during electoral roll revisions in states such as West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. He claimed that even a small number of deleted votes in each village could significantly alter constituency-level results. He also alleged the presence of bogus and duplicate votes linked to the TDP and asked party cadre to closely scrutinize electoral rolls.Referring to Kuppam, he claimed there were thousands of suspicious votes with repeated names and identical family details in the voters’ list. He directed party leaders to identify fake votes, prevent deletion of genuine voters and strengthen the party at the grassroots level.He referred to the defeat of DMK chief Stalin and TMC chief Mamata Banarjee in the recent elections after the revision of electoral rolls.The YSRCP chief announced a statewide agitation programme from June 4 to June 12 under the title “two years of backstabbing,” accusing the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition govt of betraying public trust and failing to implement election promises.
