Driver killed as cement mixture truck crashes into stationary truck near Namakkal

NAMAKKAL: A driver died after a truck carrying cement mixture crashed into a stationary truck on the Salem-Cochin National Highway in Kumarapalayam in Namakkal district on Wednesday morning.A truck carrying iron bars from Salem to Perundurai in Erode district broke down on the national highway in the Kumarapalayam Teachers’ Residence area. A truck carrying cement mixture from the Valayakkaranur area to Anthiyur in Erode district accidentally rammed the broke down truck. “The driver of the cement mixture truck, P Eswaran, 43, of Erode, died in the accident,” said an officer at the Kumarapalayam police station.The fire department recovered the body of the driver, Eswaran, and sent it to the Kumarapalayam Govt Hospital for postmortem.The accident caused traffic disruption on the national highway for over two hours.The Kumarapalayam police rushed to the scene and restored traffic.Police registered a case and began investigations.
