Dumka: Two men have been arrested for attempting to murder a man using an illegal weapon in Hiranpur police station limits of Pakur district on May 19, the police said on Thursday.
In a statement, Pakur SP Anudeep Singh said Kapildev Mandal had accused Sandeep Mandal, a resident of Gopalpur village, of attempting to shoot him with an intention to kill after abuse and assault. Kapildev had a narrow escape after the bullet got jammed inside Sandeep’s gun and did not fire. The murder attempt was born out of an enmity, police sources said.
A case was registered on May 20 against the accused under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act based on the written complaint. A team, led by Pakur sud-divisional police officer, arrested Sandeep on Wednesday.
During interrogation, Sandeep revealed to the police that the country-made gun, used in the murder attempt, was with Darshan Mandal, also a resident of Gopalpur village. Darshan was arrested on Wednesday, and the gun was recovered from him.
Police said Darshan has several criminal cases registered against him. A separate case has been lodged against him under relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
“During the operation, police seized a silver-coloured country-made pistol with a magazine and one live round,” read the statement.
