An exciting southern derby up next - Brace yourselves for another run-fest as two playoff-bound sides face off at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru with a huge opportunity to finish second, but they will need to beat the table-toppers by a comprehensive margin to leapfrog GT. Either way, the top-two picture will be confirmed by the end of the night, with RCB almost assured of top spot. The first ball of this match is scheduled to be bowled on Friday, 22nd May, at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT). Our buildup will begin well in advance, so do tune in for that as well. Until then, we sign off, only to meet again. Take care, cheers!
That's a wrap from Ahmedabad - An entertaining evening at the Narendra Modi Stadium, even if the contest itself was one-sided. Gujarat Titans end their league phase on a high, looking every bit an unstoppable force. They are now level with RCB on 18 points, sitting pretty in second spot, and with their net run rate boosted significantly by this 89-run win, a top-two finish looks almost confirmed. Chennai Super Kings, the five-time champions, meanwhile, will have plenty to reflect on. They will be eager to come back stronger next year, though there are plenty of positives to take from this season too.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Mohammed Siraj, for his outstanding spell of bowling of 3/26 in 3 overs, receives the award. On his bowling, Siraj says the ball is coming out of his hand really well. He reveals he worked on himself and his release during the period he was sitting out at the World Cup, going back to his videos to rebuild his confidence. About his preparation, he shares that he practices with the new ball early on to get a feel for his rhythm before moving on to bowling yorkers for two to three overs. On his mindset, he says his goal in the Powerplay is to build pressure from his end and stay consistent with his areas, trusting that if he does that, Rabada will take wickets from the other end. When asked about his physical condition, he says his body is in great shape and he is feeling well.
The victorious captain of the Gujarat Titans - Shubhman Gill is all smiles. On the importance of the result, Gill says it is crucial to head into the playoffs with the momentum they have built. He reflects on the first two games of the season, noting the team knew they were playing good cricket and just needed to add that extra five percent. He is happy they found it towards the end of the league stage. On what makes GT's bowling more effective, he acknowledges the pitch was good to bat on and that the odd good ball will go to the boundary. But he says it is about backing yourself and hitting the hard lengths consistently. About his own batting, he says he is very happy with how he is going. He admits that when you get out, you always think about what you could have done differently, but overall, he is pleased with his form. On his gesture of silence after the Dube catch, he puts it down to the high emotions of the game, saying that kind of thing can happen in such moments. When asked what extra is needed for the playoffs, he says it is simply about keeping up the good things and delivering the same impact game after game. He does not feel they need to add anything more, just continue doing what they are doing. Shares that his neck is fine. On the overall journey under his captaincy, he recalls how GT were number one after 12 games last season before losing the final two, including a game against CSK where they conceded 230-odd and were bundled out for around 120. He admits there were some flashbacks heading into tonight. But he says being in the top two for the major part of both seasons gives him no complaints. On the crowd, he says he is grateful for the fans who support GT, acknowledging that when playing franchises like RCB and CSK, the opposition will always have the edge in the stands, but says that is okay.
... Time for the post-match Presentation ...
GT's top three boss it up once again - Another day, another Gujarat Titans masterclass built on the same trusted template. Shubman Gill came out blazing to give GT a flying start while Sai Sudharsan settled into the supporting role alongside him. Once the Powerplay ended, both shifted gears beautifully, boundaries flowing from both ends as they brought up their fifties and stitched together another century opening stand. Gill's dismissal brought Jos Buttler to the crease and he slotted in seamlessly, combining brilliantly with Sudharsan to add yet another big partnership that put the game firmly beyond CSK's reach. All three crossed fifty, with Sudharsan leading the way with a superb 84 as GT powered to a daunting 229. CSK struggled to create inroads throughout, getting hit off their lengths early while Noor, the only spinner, found no purchase. The pacers went wide and full in the death overs, but managed only mixed returns. Gurjapneet offered the most control with the ball and Johnson closed out well at the death, though the over-rate penalty in the final two overs stung them late.
Outbowled in the chase - GT lost just four wickets across their entire innings, and in stark contrast, CSK's top four lasted only 31 balls between them. Gaikwad, Matthew Short and Kartik Sharma offered brief cameos but the GT bowlers were simply too hot to handle, bowling better lengths and giving nothing away. Siraj wreaked havoc with three wickets in his first spell while Rabada cranked it up consistently past 150 kph, and CSK were reduced to 63/5 and staring down the barrel. Dube, dropped by Gill early doors, blazed a 17-ball 47 to offer brief resistance, but his dismissal brought the house down quickly and CSK were bundled out for a paltry 140. Overall, it was all or nothing for the men in yellow in the chase. It was an all-round bowling display from GT, with Siraj, Rabada and Rashid each picking up three wickets apiece. A performance that will give them plenty of motivation as they are now playoff bound.
An underwhelming season - When Chennai Super Kings look back on this season, they will have little choice but to admit it has been a below-par campaign. They opened with three straight defeats and could never string together a consistent run of wins in the middle phase. A strong recovery of three back-to-back victories in the second half kept them in contention just outside the top four, but what followed was a disappointing three-match losing slide that ultimately ended their season. One has to feel for CSK given the injury toll they absorbed this season. They lost promising youngster Ayush Mhatre early on, with Khaleel Ahmed also ruled out along the way. But the real body-blow came when Jamie Overton was sidelined for the rest of the season at the precise moment CSK needed to push harder. Overton had been prolific with the ball and chipped in with handy cameos with the bat as well. A somewhat reshaped unit never quite clicked together, and Anshul Kamboj endured a torrid run with the ball in the final three games or so. It sums up their journey this season rather neatly.
GT's premier pacer is next up - Kagiso Rabada mentions that their top three batted phenomenally by scoring a bulk of the runs and giving the bowlers enough runs to defend. On how he keeps delivering every time, he says it is simply about doing your best, no matter how you feel. He says you walk up to the game, stay unafraid to be competitive, and that is what he tries to do. On his new role alongside Siraj, he says he has bowled across all three phases of the game and keeps it simple, doing whatever the coach and team require of him and executing to the best of his ability. On the break before the playoffs, he keeps it light. Says they will have their feet up, hotel room, some series on the screen, and then hit the ground running.
The captain of the Chennai Super Kings - Ruturaj Gaikwad reflects on the defeat. (On the chase and Gujarat’s dominance) He says CSK knew chasing 230 against an attack like Gujarat's was always going to be difficult, but the idea was to play positively and give themselves the best chance. He credits GT for outplaying them in all departments and admits they failed to execute properly in the Powerplay, allowing Gill and Sudharsan to take control. (On CSK’s season and injuries) He admits the season was challenging, especially after the early losses, but says the team found momentum once the right combinations clicked. Injuries to key all-rounders like Overton and Ghosh disrupted the balance again, forcing them to compromise either batting or bowling depth in the latter stages. (On positives and the young core) Despite missing out on the playoffs, he feels there were plenty of positives, highlighting six wins and several strong performances. He praises youngsters like Karthik Sharma, Urvil Patel and Dewald Brevis, saying the experience gained this season will help them grow going forward. (On MS Dhoni’s future) He says there is no clarity yet on Dhoni’s future, but admits CSK massively missed his presence, especially in pressure situations. He adds that the franchise will hope to come back stronger next season.
GT crush CSK at home - As clinical as it can get for the Gujarat Titans. They were relentless with the bat, did get spanked for a few with the ball, which happens in such games, and were spotless in the field. A complete team performance that takes them to 18 points, and makes their case for a top-two finish a whole lot stronger. As for the Chennai Super Kings, they are now officially knocked out of IPL 2026. They have now failed to make it to the playoffs for the third consecutive year since their last title win in 2023. GT totally outplayed them in every department tonight.
Kagiso Rabada to Spencer Johnson, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Done and Dusted as GUJARAT TITANS WIN BY 89 RUNS. An excellent review and Kagiso Rabada wraps things up here. Good-length delivery, on middle and leg, takes off sharply and angles away. Spencer Johnson backs away and has a tentative poke, but the ball zips past the outside edge into the gloves of Jos Buttler. Rabada appeals for a caught behind but does not get much support from the keeper. However, Gill trusts his bowler and takes the review. UltraEdge shows a big spike when the ball is next to the bat, and that brings a damning end to CSK's season.
Spencer Johnson is the last man in for CSK.
Kagiso Rabada to Noor Ahmad, OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! And the procession continues for the men in yellow. GT are just one step away from a massive victory. On a back of a length, at 141 kph, angling into the body. Noor looks to tuck it leg side but the ball gets big on him, hits the splice of the bat and balloons back towards the bowler. Rabada takes a simple return catch. CSK are 140/9.

CSK are falling apart in a hurry now. Mukesh Choudhary comes out to the middle.
Rashid Khan to Dewald Brevis, OUT! CAUGHT! Rashid has his third wicket. Clever bowling from the crafty Afghan leggie. He dishes it outside off, and offers some flight on a shorter length. Dewald Brevis flashes hard at it, looking to smash it over mid off, but gets it sliced in the air off the outer half of the bat. Jason Holder at cover, settles under it and takes a dolly. Brevis departs and the Super Kings are 138/8, needing 92 runs.
Rashid Khan to Dewald Brevis, WIDE! Far outside off, beyond the tramline. Brevis leaves.
Rashid Khan to Noor Ahmad, Short and outside off. Noor unleashes a reverse pull to deep backward point for a single.
Rashid Khan to Noor Ahmad, An absolute jaffa! Drifts in and around off, on a fuller length. Lands and grips away to square Noor up as he is beaten on the outside edge.
Into the tail now. Noor Ahmad walks out to face his countryman.
Rashid Khan to Anshul Kamboj, OUT! SLICED UP AND TAKEN! Rashid ends Kamboj's fun. A conventional leg break outside off, on the shorter side. Anshul Kamboj does not move his feet at all and throws his bat at it to whack it over covers, but ends up slicing it in the air. Offers a simple catch to Jason Holder at backward point. It has been all or nothing for the Super Kings in this chase and they are reduced to 136/7, needing 94 runs from 47 balls.
Prasidh Krishna to Dewald Brevis, Nails the yorker in, on middle. Brevis' head falls over, but he drops down his bat and shovels it back to the bowler. 13 runs off the over.

Prasidh Krishna to Anshul Kamboj, SIX! PUNISHED! Back of a length by Prasidh, on middle, Anshul Kamboj picks the length in a trice. Stands tall and pumps it behind wide long on for a six.
Rashid Khan to Anshul Kamboj, Just out of reach! Length-delivery on the off stump. Anshul swings hard but fails to clear the inner ring and the ball pops up. Holder runs across to his right from cover and dives with his outstretched right hand, but cannot get there. A single taken.
Rashid Khan to Anshul Kamboj, SIX! Goes all the way! Full and on middle, seemingly a googly by Rashid. Anshul gets low on his knee and slog sweeps it perfectly over deep mid-wicket for a six.
Rashid Khan to Anshul Kamboj, Flat on a good length, spins in. Kamboj presses forward and inside edges it onto his pad.
The Shivam Dube show is over now. Anshul Kamboj is the new batter in.
Rashid Khan to Shivam Dube, OUT! MISTIMED AND CAUGHT! Rashid unleashes his craft this time around and fishes out Dube. He bowls it wide outside off, and pulls back the length a bit as well. Shivam Dube is neither on the back foot, nor on the front foot. Tries to work it away staying midway and ends up chipping it in the air over cover. Shubman Gill shows his acrobatics as he backtracks a bit and dives to his left and takes an absolute stunner. A breezy 47 from Dube. CSK are 116/6, needing 114 runs.
Rashid Khan to Shivam Dube, SIX! High and handsome! A slot ball from Rashid, on leg. Dube clears the front leg, gets down on a knee and slog sweeps it massively over deep mid-wicket for a huge six. This brings up the 50-run partnership between Dube and Brevis.
Rashid Khan to Dewald Brevis, On middle and leg, on a length. Brevis punches it down to the right of Rashid for a single.
Halfway through the chase. The Titans have the upper hand, but CSK are not going down without a fight here. There is not much difference in terms of runs between the two sides. CSK are 109/5, and GT were 111/0. Just that CSK have lost too many wickets en route. The Super Kings need 121 from 60 balls. Spin introduced with Rashid Khan.
Jason Holder to Dewald Brevis, In the blockhole, on middle, Dewald Brevis jams it down the pitch. Jason Holder gets down on his follow-through, but the ball parries off his right hand behind. They cross. 18 runs off the over!
Jason Holder to Shivam Dube, Gets the bouncer high enough this time, on middle, Shivam Dube goes for the pull but gets a top edge on the bounce to deep mid-wicket for a single.

Jason Holder to Shivam Dube, Excellent yorker, on middle, Shivam Dube cannot do anything about that and digs it out to short cover.
Jason Holder to Shivam Dube, FOUR! 100 UP FOR CSK! Short of a length and outside off, Shivam Dube gets his hands high up to get over the bounce and cuts it over backward point for a boundary. 10 runs off the first two balls, and Dube will look to convert this into a big one.
Jason Holder to Shivam Dube, SIX! Shivam Dube is playing a blinder here! Fuller delivery, on middle, in the slot. Dube clears his front leg away, uses his long levers to tonk it over the long on fence for a biggie.
STRATEGIC BREAK! CSK are progressing at 10s an over, but they have lost too many wickets in the process to keep that intent flowing. Also, this is their last recognised batting pair and they still require 139 runs from 66 balls. Though Shivam Dube has been proactive, they will have to keep their foot down as the asking rate is 12.64 right now. GT, meanwhile, will look to wrap this up quickly and boost the net run rate to make their case stronger for a top-two finish. Jason Holder (1-0-9-0) to continue after the break.
