Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Over Vidarbha For Next Four Days As Monsoon Advances
Nagpur: Residents of Vidarbha can expect spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next four days as the southwest monsoon continues to advance across parts of Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain activity across Nagpur and other Vidarbha districts from June 7 to June 10.According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), atmospheric conditions are becoming favourable for increased moisture incursion and convective activity, leading to intermittent showers and thunderstorm development across the region. Officials said there is a likelihood of temperatures rising sharply during the daytime, followed by thunderstorm activity during the afternoon or evening hours.Despite the rainfall prediction, Nagpur is likely to witness hot and humid conditions, with the maximum temperature forecast to climb to around 44 degrees Celsius by June 10. As per IMD, Nagpurians may not get respite from the heat till mid-June. The combination of intense daytime heating and moisture-laden winds is expected to trigger localised thunderstorms in several parts of Vidarbha. The IMD said conditions remain favourable for the monsoon's further advance into more parts of Maharashtra over the next two to three days.
The northern limit of monsoon currently passes through Devgad in Maharashtra before extending across the southern and eastern parts of the country.Weather experts said the ongoing monsoon advance, coupled with strong surface heating over central India, is likely to keep thunderstorm activity active across Vidarbha through the coming week. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious during lightning events and monitor weather updates, especially during afternoon and evening hours when storm activity is expected to peak.Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon made further progress on Friday, advancing into parts of the west-central and east-central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The monsoon has now covered the entire state of Goa and extended over most parts of Tamil Nadu, the southwest Bay of Bengal and sections of the northeastern states, including Mizoram and Manipur.
