Nagpur: Two drunk migrant labourers from Madhya Pradesh allegedly chased and molested a 12-year-old girl at a public place in the Mankapur area on Friday morning. Angered over the incident, locals thrashed the brothers before police rescued the two from the mob's fury.
Cops said the girl, a Class 7 student, was heading to buy vegetables with her grandmother, when she was targeted by the accused — identified as Rajendra Vishwakarma (22), and his brother Sonu (23).
The labourers, working at a construction site in Mankapur, started following the girl, making obscene gestures, and molested her. Scared and traumatised, the girl ran inside the grocery shop to escape the harassment.
Residents, who witnessed the act, immediately gathered in large numbers and overpowered the accused. The crowd reportedly started beating the duo. Alerted by the commotion, cops from Mankapur police station reached the location and intervened in time to save the accused from the mob's wrath.
Based on the complaint lodged by the girl's mother, a case has been registered at Mankapur police station against the duo under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso), Act. Both accused have been arrested.
