Actual evaluation portal not hacked, clarifies CBSE
Nagpur: CBSE on Tuesday clarified that its On Screen Marking (OSM) portal used for actual evaluation of answer books was not compromised, saying a social media claim of a security breach pertained only to a testing site containing sample data.A 19-year-old student claimed that he hacked the CBSE OSM portal and then informed the board about the site's vulnerability. That claim went viral on Tuesday, adding to the existing furore against the CBSE Class 12 OSM initiative.CBSE said the claim was about the URL cbse.onmarks.co.in, which was a testing site. The board said it was being used for internal testing and review, and that no actual evaluation data, marks or other data were stored on the site. The board said the portal deployed for actual evaluation bore a different URL. It further stated the portal had not been compromised, and it doesn't have the vulnerabilities described in the social media post. "No security breaches have come to light on the portal deployed for the actual evaluation work," the board said.CBSE said the OSM system was implemented to enhance transparency in assessments and has strong grievance redressal mechanisms. The board said strong safeguards had been put in place to ensure the integrity of the platform actually deployed for evaluation.CBSE introduced OSM for Class 12 answer book evaluation beginning with the 2026 board examinations. Under the system, answer books are scanned and evaluated digitally by examiners on a computer instead of in physical mode.
