Tuticorin: Police arrested three men on Sunday on charges of gangraping a woman near the fishing harbour area in Tuticorin.
According to the Tuticorin all-woman police, the survivour lodged a complaint about the incident on Sunday. Immediately, police formed four teams under the supervision of Tuticorin deputy superintendent of police Sunil. Within hours, the teams traced the accused identified as Mohith, 25, Ritish, 19, and Jeyakumar Tiloth Berlin, 21, and arrested them, said a police officer.
Police said one of the arrested men knew the survivour. He along with two accomplices forcibly took the woman to a location near the fishing harbour and sexually assaulted her. The survivour further stated in her complaint that the accused robbed her of Rs 2,500 in cash, a mobile phone, and two silver rings before fleeing the scene.
Police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including kidnapping, gangrape, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and
robbery. Police referred the survivour to a medical examination. Further investigation is on.
