Madurai: Madras high court on Friday granted four weeks to ASI and revenue authorities to submit their report on the joint survey conducted by them in Thiruparankundram hill in Madurai.A division bench of Justice G R Swaminathan and Justice S Srimathy passed the order while hearing the contempt petition filed by K K Ramesh, managing trustee of Hindu Dharma Parishad in Madurai, seeking compliance of an earlier order passed by the court in 2025.The court passed the order after authorities submitted that the survey of Thiruparankundram hill was complete, and sought time to file the report. At the earlier hearing, the court directed the district collector to facilitate conduct of the joint survey along with ASI and conclude it in May. Earlier, the petitioner moved court seeking a direction to the authorities to bring the entire Thiruparankundram hill under the control of the central govt and ASI. In Feb 2025, the court disposed of the petition by granting liberty to Hindu Dharma Parishad to give a fresh representation to the Centre and ASI. It directed the authorities concerned to consider the same and pass appropriate orders after affording opportunity to all parties concerned, as expeditiously as possible.
