India Urges Faster Bangladesh Verification To Deport Illegal Migrants

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said 1,076 Indian citizens have been deported from the United States so far in 2026, compared to 3,567 during the previous year. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India and the US are discussing migration and mobility issues, with a focus on curbing illegal migration while ensuring legal migration remains unaffected. On illegal foreign nationals in India, including those from Bangladesh, the MEA said existing laws are being applied and deportations are carried out through a bilateral verification mechanism. India has urged Bangladesh to expedite pending nationality verification requests to facilitate smoother deportation processes.
