Madurai: Health officials sealed an unlicensed clinic near Katchaikatti in Vadipatti after finding that a man with qualifications only up to Class X was allegedly treating patients there.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Madurai district deputy director of health services Dr Selvaraj, along with Vadipatti GH medical officer Dr Dhanasekaran, drug inspector Paandi Muneeswari and pharmacist Muthulakshmi, inspected the private clinic on Saturday.
During the inspection, officials questioned Jayachandran, 40, who was attending patients at the clinic. "He admitted during an inquiry that he had studied only up to Class X," sources said.
Officials also found stocks of allopathic medicines at the clinic, raising concerns over illegal medical practice. The clinic was sealed for violating health regulations.
Based on a complaint lodged by Dr Dhanasekaran, Vadipatti police registered a case against Jayachandran for practising medicine without proper qualifications and launched an investigation.
