Subnautica 2 introduces several fun survival mechanics, one of them being Biomods. These are essentially genetic modifications that your character can unlock by scanning specific creatures across the alien ocean. The Biomods in Subnautica 2 are split into two categories, Active and Passive, and they end up providing you with a range of unique abilities like resource detection and so on. Active Biomods in Subnautica 2

Active Biomods are abilities you can manually trigger during gameplay to gain an immediate tactical advantage. These are the Active Biomods:
  • Dash - Unlocked by default. Allows you to dash in any direction, enabling you to dodge creatures and also navigate tight spaces quickly.
  • Pathfinder - Unlocked by default. Releases a trail of pheromones, using which you can retrace your path through unfamiliar biomes.
  • Sonic Echo - Unlocked by scanning the Collector Leviathan. Emits a pulse that highlights all nearby collectible resources, and you can then easily collect them.
  • Electric Discharge - Unlocked by scanning the Electric Geordie. Delivers an 800-volt electric shock. This will turn out to be a powerful tool when you are against aggressive predators.
  • Chum Cloud - Unlocked by scanning the Toxic Sponge Houndgar. Releases a cloud of bait, which ends up distracting the nearby predators, allowing you to escape or reposition.

Passive Biomods in Subnautica 2

Passive Biomods are always active. The following are all of them:
  • Sea Skimmer - Unlocked by default. Increases your swimming speed when near the sea floor.
  • Oxygen Control - Unlocked by default. Slows down your oxygen consumption whenever you are completely still.
  • Homing Sense - Unlocked by scanning the Surge Jelly Hammerhead. Detects all nearby powered bases, from which you can navigate back to safety.
  • Threat Sense - Unlocked by scanning the Hoverthorn. Passively alerts you about all enemy threats that are within your vicinity.
  • Bioluminescence - Unlocked by scanning the Sandspear Electric Geordie. Enables you to glow in the dark. This takes out the need for external light sources in deeper biomes.
  • Water Secretion - Unlocked by scanning the Water Slug. Filters seawater, refilling your fresh water supply in-game.
  • Water Retention - Unlocked by scanning the Coral Crab. Enlarges your kidneys to store significantly more water at a time.
  • Dermal Garden - Unlocked by scanning the Needler Mango. Grows nutritious algae directly on your skin, which becomes a passive food source.
  • Slow Metabolism - Unlocked by scanning the Nibbler Mango. Makes your microbiome more efficient, reducing how quickly you need to consume food and water.
  • Camouflage - Unlocked by scanning the Bullethead. Renders you completely invisible to all nearby predators whenever you remain perfectly still, making it one of the most powerful Biomods available.
