Tenkasi: An anganwadi worker in Tenkasi district was arrested on Friday for trying to cover a crying child with a sack at the anganwadi centre at Pavoorchatram.A video in circulation shows the woman admonishing the child to stop crying, then covering it with a sack and removing it. As the video went viral on Thursday, Selvaraja, a social activist from Surandai, submitted a representation to the district collector, saying the child was subjected to harassment.He wanted immediate inquiry into the matter, and action against the worker. He said officials must intervene to ensure the safety of children. An official inquiry confirmed the incident and identified the worker as Kalaiselvi.Tenkasi collector Ranjeet Singh told TOI that the incident happened on Thursday, and she was suspended following an inquiry by Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) officials. “A formal police complaint was filed by the child’s mother on Thursday. Subsequently, the anganwadi worker was arrested on Friday morning,” he added.
